The Power of 11 Cents

Here is a simple project that doesn’t take a lot of time or money but benefits the men and women serving our country.

The Power of 11 Cents started with a young boy named Abraham.  Abraham was just three and his parents had already been deployed numerous times.  His grandmother, Pat, worked to help injured soldiers and their families.  One day, Abraham was playing around with some change and Pat told him he needed to put it away.  He said “No grandma, give it to your soldiers.”  And the Power of 11 Cents was born.

This could be a great service learning project for your club or organization! All you need to do is  challenge your members to bring 11¢ or more to contribute to the military who are suffering a loss or an injury.

The following web site gives more information about the Missouri Military Relief Fund. http://www.mmfrf.mo.gov/

Freedom Isn't Free!

Please make checks payable to Missouri Military Relief Fund (with Power of 11 Cents - OMK in the memo line) and mail to:

The Missouri Military Relief Fund is a state-administered fund which will assist families of persons who are members of the Missouri National Guard or Missouri residents who are members of the reserves of the armed forces of the United States and have been called to active duty as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  Questions about donating to or receiving assistance from this fund should be directed to Pat Rowe Kerr with the Missouri Veterans Commission (573-522-4220).
