Working under the direction of LZ Productions, the teens became the focus of the Ag Lifestyles program as they met and interviewed a variety of equine specialists in the Stephenville, Texas area. Some of the professionals included leading embryologist Brad Stroud, DVM and Craig Cameron, renowned horsemanship clinician.

Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas were the destinations of the 2009 trip in late May. The Missouri 4-H teens were able to explore varied aspects of the indigenous horse industry which included Quarter Horse racing, a custom boot maker, western art, professional horse trainers and breeders, rodeos, professional horse productions and the last night on a working cattle ranch in the Flint Hills.

This annual trip, a popular and valuable learning experience for Missouri 4-H teens, had 51 participants for the 2009 event.  In evaluations of the trip, the teens highly value the wide variety of opportunities exploring equine related careers to couple with their equine passion.

The 2010 trip in late May will focus on equine careers and the horse industry in Colorado and Nebraska.  Registration information will be available closer to the event date at http://4h.missouri.edu/events/horse/.
