12th Annual Global Conference held in Kansas City

March 2007
Kansas City, MO

Members of the Missouri 4-H program took part in four days of educational activities at the 12th Annual Kansas City 4-H Global Conference.  On March 7-10, the 56 club members joined 4-H’ers from Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma in this global experience.

This year’s conference title was “4-H Reach Out from the Heartland Globally and Culturally.”  Alison Copeland, state 4-H youth development specialist, said the goal of the conference is interaction with business leaders, educators and a diverse group of international people.

“A combination of activities helped participants identify emerging work-force needs and gain insight about the global and high-tech work place,” Copeland said. “In addition, delegates had interaction with diverse ethnic groups, learned about career and leadership skills for the corporate workplace and increased their confidence for functioning in a global society of political, economic, religious, cultural and ethnic diversity.”

More than 50 educational workshops covering a wide variety of topics were available for delegates to choose from. Some of the topics included zoological careers, international careers, agricultural journalism and public relations, veterinary medicine, fashion, military careers, hotel management, safety and health management in construction, international law, careers with NASA, teamwork, teaching the visually challenged, dentistry, geoscience engineering and integrated marketing, to name a few.
